The recent UN screed against modern life, posing as a scientific paper, paints a bleak picture for our planet and virtually every lifeform. According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) the changes that are in store for us, caused for the most part by man-made CO2, will be dramatic and very ugly.
The list of horrible consequences are nearly too terrible to contemplate:
--Sea levels rising to 30' or more, flooding most coastlines
--Acidity levels in the oceans rising (from CO2 absorption) to levels that will destroy the underlying food source for virtually all sea life
--Extinction of 40 to 70% (pretty broad range) of all species (there's always the caveat of possibly, but who are we kidding--they are making the claim, not a mention of slight possibilities).
All of which can be prevented if our governments would just implement some small changes that would impose virtually no pressure on their economies. Of course these actions involve highly directive and intrusive government control.
Now let's be honest (which the writers of this crap will not be): changes to any system that will affect the energy spectrum to the level they are talking about will have huge effects on local economies. No government is capable of responsive, fine-turned management of any economy under any circumstances--history has taught anyone who is willing to open his eyes this simple truth. Now to be sure the true believers among the "intellectual class"--the modern equivalent of the idle rich of a century ago--can only see a central command solution to any postulated problem...such command being in their hands of course. But the rest of us can typically look past the infantile rhetoric and see whats coming.
Which brings me, albeit somewhat circuitously, to the full revelation of the sheer duplicity of the Goremongers: the response to a suggestion of using nuclear power to replace the massive coal-burning power plants, and hence drop huge generators of the green-house gases. Take a look at the reception to this from the most overwrought global warming fighters...absolute resistance. Yes, there are some greens who are saying that nuke power should be "looked at," but the real believers--and shouters--are just as against nukes as they are for economic sanctions against CO2 emmitters. This should not surprise us if it's coming from the frenetic mommies like Helen Caldicott, who's only career effort in the last 30 years has been screaming the dangers of all things nuclear. But it also comes from many who are in the forefront of the anti-global warming movement.
Which suggests this: they don't believe their own bullshit. If any of them believed even a fraction of the horrors they claim coming, they would be screaming from the rooftops for nukes far and wide, similar to the French model. Even their own worst scenarios for nuke disasters are a trifle compared to the world-wide horrors they are claiming will come unless we alter our gas emissions. Yet all we really hear proposed are conservation and so called renewable energy.
So the real story is this--cynical bastards, who see power and money coming their way, will impoverish an entire world for their won benefit. These pigs are in the same category as Stalin, Pol Pot, Kim Ill-Jung, and every criminal boss...what's good for them is all, to hell with the rest of us. |
